5 Tips to Make Your Home Office More Comfortable

Several things make the office comfortable. The bare minimum is a comfortable desk and a chair. You need to have a comfortable and productivity-inspiring office especially if you are always under pressure and stress from tough assignments or deadlines and work for long hours. However, you may require other elements to increase your productivity. Here are a few tips to make your office comfy.

1. Make it Bright

Colours are known to have an impact on your mood and productivity. Leading firms are good at integrating colours in office decorations. Interior designers vouch for blue as it creates an environment for focused work. On the other hand, adding yellow shades works well for the creative department while green enhances balance. Red increases the heart rate and makes people physically active.

It is good to integrate colour into your workplace. However, if your bosses are not doing it and you cannot do it, consider adding colours to your desk and nearby walls. It could be a decoration, a potted flower or a photo.

2. Untangle

Take advantage of the wireless connectivity to avoid pulling wires to connect various devices at the workplace. Scanners and printers can connect wirelessly while TVs can connect to the modem router combo. Wi-Fi is the new necessity at workplaces.

If you need video conferencing equipment and have a large screen in your meeting room, do away with cords to connect with your PC. It is easy to trip over wires and mess up your in-tray or even dislodge a ceramic flower pot. Instead, use a wireless HDMI to connect devices conveniently.

3. Make it Personal

You should not make your office too homely lest you relax more than you work. However, consider adding your personal touches to the room. Consider hanging your framed motivational quote or that flowery calendar that you were given as a gift. Personalising your workspace enhances the connection with your office, which, in turn, improves your productivity. For the very least, consider having a compact organiser for the office supplies and a try for the documents, Create shelves on the wall where you can place file holders. These are cheap to make with paper. You may need to decorate them to match your office design.

4. Organise Well

There is a myth that if you take long to find items on your desk, then you must be productive. However, it is time-consuming to search a document from a pile of papers. Instead, consider having proper office storage such as a small cabinet or a drawer on your desk. They assist you in organising your work documents and personal items so that you can find things when you need to use them.

5. Install Proper Lighting and Make the Spacious

Proper lighting is as important as a comfortable office chair, especially if you spend over nine hours on your desk. In such working conditions, it is easy to damage your eyesight with low lighting. This is still important even if your office has a window because on a dull day or after sunset, the light may not be sufficient.

You may consider asking the management to buy you a desk lamp. People also use mirrors to enhance the light. Mirrors have other benefits, including making your space look big. However, ensure that you do not install them in a way that they stream light into your eyes or a colleague’s desk.
