First American Home Warranty Reviews – Tips on Natural Disaster Protection For Your Home

November 20, 2019 by Ian Leave a Comment

We have seen in the last year alone the volume of damage which natural disasters have had on properties throughout the country, from fires in California to hurricanes in Florida. We get little warning that these disasters are about to happen, which is why if you do live in an area which is prone to these things happening, it is essential that you have done all that you can to protect your property, and here are some tips on doing just that.

Home Warranty

Having home insurance is a given but so too should be having a great home warranty from somewhere like the brilliant First American Home Warranty Reviews. Insurance will look after the structure and the possessions inside the home, but they won’t do anything with regards to the gas, electric and plumbing systems in the home, which is where home warranty plans come in. These policies offer maximum protection for your property in the event of a natural disaster. Experts will always recommend this coverage so it makes sense to look. Check out your options, read reviews from previous buyers, focus on level of cover, compare cost and customer service and get your place protected.

Earthquakes

The structure of your property is only really in danger from quakes which register over 8.0, if they are modern, and in truth there isn’t much you can do prior to a quake to secure the home. Inside the home however there is a lotion can do to minimize the damage. This is things like ensuring cupboard doors have latches so they don’t open when it shakes, that you have expensive items like TVs and antiques bolted down or locked away so that they don’t fall, and making sure that your windows and doors are sturdy.

Fires

The best thing you can do to prevent fire damage from wildfires is to clear an exclusion zone around the property making it very difficult for anything to catch fire in the first place. Debris, branches and any other flammable item should be removed from around the home.

Hurricanes

There is a lot you can and should be doing if you live in a hurricane zone and all options should be considered. This includes hurricane straps which will help the property to stay stronger in the face of the winds, window and door shutters to prevent the strong winds from ripping through the home, and a well built garage door is also going to be a great idea here as they are very often what gets damaged first. Any investment which you must make into these gadgets and pieces of equipment are going to be worthwhile so be sure that you don’t cut corners, doing so could see you paying much more money in the future after the inevitable happens and causes massive amounts of damage.

We may not get much warning prior to a disaster but you can certainly take steps which will help for when the time comes.
