An Intro to Black Hat SEO

Black hat SEO is a term used to describe a range of tactics to get higher search engine result rankings while working against SEO best practices. These tactics are considered unethical and will result in the website penalized by search engines. Search engines like Google use complicated algorithms that consider multiple factors when ranking websites based on the keywords or phrases searched.

The goal of a website is to get a high ranking in search engines to drive more traffic to their website. This content is designed to increase ranking but provides poor results to the user, which is why websites can be penalized. Scamming Content

Scamming content includes using copied content, spun content, malicious content, and clickbait. The spun content is computer-generated content utilizing keywords. Malicious content consists of any pages that demonstrate malicious behavior, and clickbait is content that does not provide what it claims to provide. Content is supposed to be valuable to the reader and fill the need of the user.

Manipulating Links

Manipulating links include buying or selling links, buying directory placement, using link rings, creating link farms, utilizing guest bloggers just to generate links. Buying links includes paying others to post links or offering free products in exchange for links. Any methods of increasing links without sincerity and genuine connection are manipulating links.

Unethical Websites

Unethical websites include mirror sites designed to increase your ranking and creating new blogs just to generate links. Finally, attack tactics include falsely reporting competitors to get them penalized in search engines, using referral spam to fill your website with fake stats, and using trackback to get visitors on your site, increasing your perceived traffic. Attacking competitors in any way as a means of increasing your ranking and traffic is unethical.
