Pros and Cons of the Top Ecommerce Platforms

February 25, 2019 by Ian Leave a Comment

Ever since 2015, the world of ecommerce has been rapidly growing. More and more consumers are choosing to purchase products and services online. The convenience of online shopping is the main perk, but browsing your favorite retail websites can also be fun. You might find sale items or coupon codes that you wouldn’t when shopping at the retail location.

Running an ecommerce business is a smart move, but there are definitely some challenges involved. There are more issues for organizations with an online-store, not to mention the need for a user-friendly, easy-to-navigate website. However, these difficulties can be easily alleviated when you partner up with an ecommerce platform.

First of all, what is an ecommerce platform?

If you are wondering what an ecommerce platform even is, this is what you should know according to websitesetup.org:

“An ecommerce platform is a piece of software that allows you to build an online store and run a business online. It gives you the tools to create and manage your site including products and day-to-day operations. Most if not all ecommerce builders use drag and drop functions.”

So which ones are the best and most user-friendly?

According to the Interview Guys, most interviews involve discussing strengths, weaknesses, and relevant skills. When searching for an ecommerce platform, these are all things you should consider. Look into each platform’s strong suits and drawbacks. You also want to think about your individual goals for your business and how the platform can help you accomplish those.

Based on these three things – strengths, weakness, and relevant skills – here are the top 3 ecommerce platforms in 2019.

Wix Stores

This company originally started as only a website builder, but it has since developed into an online store resources as well. The main perk of using Wix is that it is extremely easy to use, even if you don’t consider yourself tech savvy. The main con is that it only offers basic services; if your online store is more complex, Wix might not be for you.

BigCommerce

Another great option, BigCommerce is ideal for small businesses. This platform earns extra points for its large number of tools and features. Even if you want to incorporate promotions and coupon codes or you need help handling returns, BC can help you along the way. The cons? There aren’t many design options to choose from, so if this matters to your business you’ll need to look elsewhere.

Shopify

Even if you don’t run an ecommerce store, chances are you have heard of Shopify. It is one of the biggest names in ecommerce in 2019. These are the benefits of using Shopify for your store: easy to use, quick set-up. SEO features, tons of design templates, and basic/advanced account options.

The only potential con of this platform is the price. Depending on the account type you choose, the Shopify monthly fees can be high. The most basic account costs $29 per month, but add-ons can start to rack up a bill. You also have the option for a regular account ($79 per month) or advanced ($299 per month).
