5 Reasons Why Rehab Fails to Overcome Drug Addiction?

June 29, 2020 by Ian Leave a Comment

Rehabilitation can help a lot of drug addicts to get rid of their problem. But unfortunately, it doesn’t work for everyone. Drug addiction can have a devastating impact on all areas of life. It not only destroys the health of a person, but it can also destroy families and relationships. Often people think that sending a drug addict to rehab is the best idea possible. But most often, even after spending months in rehab, many people don’t get the best result. This article will help you know why rehabilitation sometimes doesn’t give solutions to your problem.

So, let’s delve deeper into why drug rehabilitation is not an answer to every drug addict’s problem.

Lack of participation

If someone is not willing to attend a rehab program, they are less likely to get benefit from the program. Overcoming drug addiction requires proper participation from the patient, and they should have the will and zeal to get rid of the addiction. Thus, just sending a person to a rehab won’t reap much benefit if the person is not willing to get rid of the addiction.

Less time in treatment

Overcoming all kinds of habits and addiction needs a proper amount of time. If you think that spending a few months in the rehab center will help you get the desired result, this is not the real truth. The healing process takes time, and if you get out of rehab too soon, there may be the possibility of getting back the addiction once again. For most drug addicts, the minimum time required to get out of addiction is 2-months. Thus, try to spend at least two months in the rehabilitation center. To prevent relapse, always look to see if the patient spends more time in the rehab.

Addiction treatment is not tailored.

Not all drug addicts are the same. Although they may have the common problem of addiction, their way of life and their addiction level is different. Thus, if patients are not provided with a tailored treatment plan, the treatment may not work for most patients. Addiction is a personal problem, and everyone has a different way of dealing with it. Thus, most rehab fails to overcome addiction if patients are not provided with a personalized treatment plan.

Lack of support at home

If patients don’t have an adequate support system at home, they may often fall into the loop of addiction. Just sending a person to a rehab center is not enough to get rid of the drug addiction. Patients need to get constant support from the family as well as the community as a whole. Without a supportive home environment, there are fewer chances that any rehabilitation program will work. In addition to this, the people around the patient also need to stay sober. Anytime a patient will look at other consuming drugs or alcohol, he/she may have cravings and thus be compelled to use the drug again. Thus, the best support at home and motivational people around the patient is a must if you want the patient to overcome drug addiction. Most patients fail in their attempt to get away from drug addiction because they don’t have a supportive environment. People who want to help their loved ones but don’t know how there is lot of information available on blogs like huffpost which will prove useful in trying times.

Drug cravings

Everyone who is a habitual drug addict, drug cravings are an essential part of the rehab program. Everyone who tries to get away from the addiction gets one or the other form of cravings. Cravings can be physical as well as mental urge to use the drug for one last time. Most patients are unable to control their cravings, and thus, they fall into the loop of addiction once again, even after returning from the rehabilitation program. For all such patients, medication-assisted programs work best as they are always kept in a sedated state so that they don’t have many cravings for drugs.

Thus, most patients fail at rehabilitation programs as they are unable to control their cravings.

Traumatic event

Many people use drugs as an option to get away from any ruthless traumatic events like the death of parents, divorce, or accidents. They use drugs as an excuse. But they don’t know when they get into the loop of drug addiction. Many rehab programs fail, as they don’t have much idea about the past or any traumatic event of the patient. It is important for the rehab program to have options for psychological therapy so that patients can forget or forgive certain events in his/her life.

Drug addiction is one of the most harmful conditions prevailing in our society. There are numerous rehabilitation centers in our society, but they fail to benefit the patients as they don’t have much idea about the background, reasons, and other aspects of patient’s history. We hope these reasons will help rehab centers to come up with better research and better programs for the rehabilitation of patients.
