Trying to Conceive? Here Are Some Healthy Tips

August 12, 2020 by Ian Leave a Comment

Starting a family is always a big step. In order to increase your chances of getting pregnant, taking care of your body is crucial. However, there are other things you should keep in mind if you’re trying to conceive.

Unfortunately, some people might struggle to conceive. That shouldn’t be discouraging — seeing how much medicine has progressed, there are numerous options for couples that find themselves in this situation.

The first step should always be visiting a renowned clinic, such as Wijnland Fertility. There, you will be able to get an expert opinion and create a plan on how to proceed.

We’ve listed some important tips that can be helpful. Read on and see what you can do to optimize your fertility.

Monitor Your Ovulation

Tracking your menstrual cycle is crucial here. If you don’t have it already, you should have a period calendar, and monitor your cycle. That will make it easier for you to determine when you’re ovulating.

Women who have regular cycles will probably ovulate two weeks before their period. However, there are numerous kits you can use at home to determine this with more accuracy.

Take Prenatal Vitamins

Some doctors suggest that you start taking prenatal vitamins even before you’re actually pregnant. This allows you to find the vitamins that are good for your system, and you can continue using them once you’ve become pregnant. Another option is to take a daily multivitamin that should contain B vitamin and folic acid.

Pay Attention to Your Body Weight

Weight actually plays a big role in conceiving. Some overweight women might struggle to get pregnant while being too thin can decrease your chances of conceiving as well. Studies have shown that it might take underweight women up to four times longer to conceive, and up to two times longer if a woman is overweight.

Because of that, it’s important to try and reach your optimal BMI, because if you have excess body fat, your body will produce more estrogen, which can interfere with ovulation. On the other hand, if you’re too thin, your period might not be regular, or you might not ovulate.

Eat Healthy Foods

While there is no specific diet that would increase your fertility, eating healthy foods will boost your daily vitamin intake. This includes a variety of vegetables and fruits that are rich in calcium, iron, and protein. Additionally, you should eat whole grains, as well as healthy sources of fat, such as dairy or olive oil.

Moreover, you should maybe go easy on the caffeine. Excess caffeine has been linked to lowering a woman’s fertility. However, one or two cups of coffee a day shouldn’t have a negative effect.

Avoid Exhausting Workouts

Studies have shown that women who partake in strenuous physical activity don’t always have regular ovulation, which can definitely interfere with getting pregnant. Naturally, moderate physical activity is actually beneficial for a woman’s body, because it helps prepare the body for pregnancy and labor. In this case, moderation is key.
