4 Ways To Maximise Your Learning Potential

April 24, 2020 by Ian Leave a Comment

Whether you’re studying on how to write a dbq essay, or whether you’re simply trying to develop skills in a new field ‒ what’s for sure is that learning is a constant part of life. That’s why you should get to grips with all the best practices that will help you learn things better ‒ and faster.

There’s no right or wrong way to learn ‒ in fact, everyone learns a little differently! No matter your learning style, here are four simple tips that will help to maximise your motivation and productivity when learning new things.

Respect Your Mind and Body

Your mind and body are your most valuable tools when it comes to learning. They need to be kept in tip-top condition and treated with care and respect.

When you’re well-rested, your brain is much better at taking in and storing new information. That’s why you should always get enough sleep. To give your energy levels an extra lift, you should fuel your body with nutritious, healthy food. A balanced diet can improve your overall well-being, which is crucial for learning. Don’t forget to keep yourself well hydrated!

Keeping active ‒ whether that be taking a fitness class or even going for a short walk ‒ is a brilliant way to improve your physical and mental health. Exercise is a great mood booster, and it can help to relieve any stress you might be feeling.

Get Your Head in the Game

Begin by paying special attention to your learning environment. You’ll feel much more motivated to learn if you feel happy and comfortable. Ensure that the space is well lit, and has all the equipment you need.

Be an active learner ‒ don’t sit back and be passive. Ask lots of questions! You might find it helpful to take notes or to draw tables and diagrams. You should also try to take regular breaks when you’re learning. Take a moment now and again to refresh your mind and stretch your legs.

Beware of distractions! Try to ignore your mobile device, and don’t get distracted by people chatting around you. If you’re not truly focussed, you might miss a crucial piece of information.

Aim, Test and Evaluate

Before starting any learning journey, make sure that you set yourself some clear objectives. Try to set achievable goals as well as others where you’ll have to rise to the challenge.

Try to regularly assess your progress, celebrating your successes and identifying areas where you need to improve. Put your learnings into practice, or try to explain a challenging concept to a friend ‒ this way you can test how much you really know.

If you’re finding something particularly tricky, or you don’t think your learning methods are working, then don’t be afraid to try new things. Evaluation and adaptation are crucial if you want to achieve your learning goals.

Revise and Conquer

Revising can be the most challenging step in the learning process, but it’s one of the most important ‒ so it’s crucial to get it right!

When it comes to revision, you should never leave it to the last minute. However, before you even start to revise, you must make sure you fully understand the information and ideas you have learnt. Don’t be afraid to ask your teacher or a professional for some extra clarification.

Try to keep revision interesting by experimenting with different learning techniques. Besides reading and writing notes, you could try drawing mind maps, creating colour-coded flashcards, or even coming up with your own handy mnemonics!

Learn Quickly and Effectively

Now you have all the tools to give your learning skills the boost they need. Put these simple tricks and tips into practice, and you’ll start learning and retaining information in a much more efficient way!
