How You Can Effectively Secure Your Business’ Outdoor Area

October 1, 2018 by Ian Leave a Comment

Whether you have a retail shop or convenience store, a bar or pub, or a restaurant or café, you may have an outdoor area where customers or diners can sit down and rest or enjoy a meal, a cup of tea or coffee, or have a few drinks. If you have such an outdoor area, you need to make sure that whoever is spending time in your outdoor location is safe. It’s not only the interior of your business which needs special security measures – your outdoor areas need ample protection as well, especially if altercations or emergencies occur. So how can you make sure that the security of your outdoor space is enhanced? How can you effectively secure your business’ outdoor areas? Let’s find out.

Pay attention to your design and layout

First of all, in regards to the design and layout of your outdoor area, it’s best to create a particular space which can both be appealing to your customers but also protect them from harm. So for you to achieve this specific goal, you need to pay attention to your design and layout. For this, you can do the following:

  • Have a terrace or patio enclosed with the use of fencing or dividers, so your customers and patrons are safer and more secure within your premises.
  • Create enough space in between different pieces of furniture so your customers have a clear path where they can walk through, and your employees can easily manoeuvre through the crowd and tables as well. Additionally, make sure you have a clear point of exit which your customers can use in case there is an emergency.
  • Install good locks for your terraced or outdoor area to make sure your property is protected after operating hours.
  • Install ample lighting which can light up the outdoor area, particularly in the evening or after operating hours, as one of the best security companies in Oxford, Securipol, confirm.
  • Install a good closed-circuit television camera system in key points of your property’s outdoor area so you can have the area monitored at all times.

You can enhance the use of your CCTV system by making sure that footage from the past weeks or days is always archived just in case there is an emergency situation or crime. You can also opt for cameras with motion-trigger capabilities, so you can capture any suspicious actions or movements. When installing your CCTV system’s cameras, try to avoid any blind spots and make sure the cameras are in positions at which they can capture any activity or movement throughout your entire premises.

To further increase the security of your premises, you can take advantage of an alarm response service, which can send trained security units to your business property if an alarm is triggered. The response service can be there within minutes, check the cause of the alarm, and deal with it in the most appropriate way. Another great option would be to have a mobile security patrol service where trained security staff can patrol your business’ perimeter at different times of day and night to make sure your property is safe and protected.
