Roger Wolfson’s 4 Best Novel Writing Tips

September 17, 2020 by Ian Leave a Comment

Writing a novel is much more complicated than what many think. Roger Wolfson knows that and fully understands how difficult it is to write something that would resonate with others. Readers need to be connected with the novel or there won’t be any sale or recognition. How does this connection happen? Through quality writing. Every aspiring novel writer needs to follow the advice presented below.

Utilizing Writing Goals And Deadlines

Whenever there is no goal or deadline set, completing a project becomes very difficult. Measurable deadlines help a lot with novels and they keep writers invested.

A novel is usually around 75,000 words. Writers need to know that it is much easier to add words than to cut words so the word count goal has to be lower on the first drafts or the first novel writing attempts.

Deadlines are different for different people. The writer has to determine how many words can be written every day, which is usually around 3,000 words for most people. Due to this, it makes sense to have a goal of finishing a novel in one month. Deadlines push limits and make people write even if they are not motivated to do so.

Establishing A Routine Before Writing

Many writers simply sit down in front of a computer and want to write without an idea or a plan. This makes it very difficult to make the story writing continue and oftentimes leads to the appearance of writer’s block.

Aspiring novel authors can avoid this common block by preparing a mind map, outlining ideas, and writing the synopsis before the actual novel writing starts. A simple 2 page synopsis can do wonders when it comes to keeping writing going.

Creating Very Strong Characters

The author needs to know everything about the characters inside the novel. This makes it so simple to write because the story can progress in a natural way. Unfortunately, many beginners or inexperienced writers simply try to build the character while the action in the novel develops. This can make the entire process needlessly difficult.

The bottom line with characters is that the writer needs to create them as complex as possible and needs to do it before the actions inside the novel are written. This helps a lot with the creative process and helps develop the story at a natural pace.

Utilizing The Best Tools To Write A Novel

Most people write in Open Office or Microsoft Office. This can become frustrating. It cannot be denied that these programs are very good when it comes to most types of writing, but the professional writers actually use software that was created for them.

Those interested can choose out of different tools and programs that help book and novel writing become a simple process, on that is not filled with distractions. Many can be considered and the individual should choose the program that makes him/her more reliable, efficient and productive. At the same time, using an ergonomic office chair is a necessity because of the number of hours spent in front of a computer writing.
